Summer Sun & Sensitive Skin

Are you ready for summer? Do you have your beach days and BBQ days planned? What about your skincare plan? Haven't thought much about it?

Prevention is better than having to find a cure, so the earlier the better.

Everyone is beautiful, but if we don’t keep our skin healthy, youthful, and vibrant, we may lose our natural beauty. Beautiful and healthy skin keeps our smiles shining bright.

Weather and skin type plays a role in our skincare routine. So don't forget to adjust your skincare routine as needed for your skin type and seasonal weather. And remember, regardless of your skin type, it is important to take care of your skin. After all, it's the only skin you have, right!!

One of the most challenging skin types in the Summer months is for those of you that have sensitive skin. If you have this skin type, Summertime brings on skin irritation that may cause itchiness, inflammation, burning, swelling, rashes, rosacea, rough complexion, and breakouts.  Rest assured, you are not alone - many of us are concerned about keeping our skin healthy!

Below are a few things to keep in mind for those Summer months:

  1. Don't skip the sunscreen. Sunscreen acts as a protective barrier that keeps your sensitive skin protected from harmful UV rays, extreme temperature, and harsh humid winds. You can also use natural products like aloe vera-based products to soothe sunburned skin. Aloe vera is rich in anti-inflammatory and healing properties and always proves to be a good friend of every skin type. It will also help lessen your red and irritated skin, restore your complexion and keep your skin nourished.

  2. You do not need a heavy cleanser. For the Summer months, “lighten up” and consider a foam cleanser. Use a mild wash that suits your sensitive skin.

  3. Make sure you MOISTURIZE! Sweat does NOT equal moisture for your skin! A mild moisturizer will hydrate your skin and lets your skin relax. Try to include only natural and organic products in your skincare regimen.

  4. Add serum that has Vitamin C in it – it will help reduce those fine lines!

  5. Add that exfoliate! Slough of that old skin to help renew your skin. Choose the right exfoliator with the right ingredients that suit your sensitive skin. Harsh ingredients in exfoliators can irritate your delicate skin. Find an exfoliator that is free from hard bumps or consider a cream exfoliator or an exfoliator that has tiny bumps. Exfoliation in summer will help your skin breathe and wipe out all impurities and cleanse the skin. Be gentle with your fragile sensitive skin while exfoliation.

  6. Stay hydrated! Hydration is the key. Maximum hydration can sort out many problems of the skin. It is imperative to keep yourself hydrated in summer because excessive heating, you may experience dehydration. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Hydration will help to sort out several problems including sensitive skin.

  7. Stay in the shade when possible or cover up! Try not to go outside in sun peaks hours like 10 AM to 2 PM.
